  • Keesler AFB instructor overcomes challenges to become educator of the year

Sometimes it is the most challenging times in our lives that can lead us a in a completely different direction. It is when we are at our darkest hour and the path forward is unclear, all we can do is keep putting one foot forward and hope things get better.
  • Ukrainian Airmen serve USAF to give back

Each Airman makes the decision to join the U.S. Air Force for their own reasons. For some it is the benefits or travel. For others, it might be because they want to serve their country. But for a select few Airmen, joining was a chance to give back to the country that gave them new prospects in life, and a place to call home.
  • LaFlamme brothers: Identical twins, identical Air Force careers

Growing up, they were known around their small town as “the twins.” Their mother dressed them in matching outfits as infants, and they participated in the same school activities. Although they gained their own identity as they got older, they now have the same job and wear the same uniform.
  • Defender delivers baby at gate

Most installation entry controllers expect to come into work and perform their usual duties to defend the base from unwelcomed visitors. Occasionally, something interesting happens and they respond accordingly. Then, there’s the unexpected.
  • Deployed Airmen discover spiritual fortitude

Leaving for or returning from a deployment can challenge the resiliency of Airmen. They have to say goodbye to their families and friends and be a part from them for a considerable amount time. Then, when they return, they could have undergone times of great stress during their deployment.

Commentaries

  • Pursuing a healthy dialogue and stigmatizing rape culture

As service members, we receive a number of mandatory sexual harassment and assault awareness briefings each year. These briefings address an array of topics, but I would like service members to be given the opportunity to gain a better understanding of what constitutes rape culture.
  • Overcoming holiday blues

The holiday season is upon us once again, and it is often a busy season. It is filled with shopping, gifts, festivities, joyous music, holiday parties, decorations, and many opportunities to be with family, friends, and coworkers as we close out the old year and welcome the New Year.
  • The time we saved a life

As Airmen, we are constantly preparing to be ready for the worst days of our lives. We live by a fit to fight ethos and maintain readiness for the most extreme of emergency situations. Though, sometimes we realize we aren’t just prepared to fight for our lives and remember that we are trained to fight for every free life in the United States.
  • Preventing suicide - starting with myself

There is rarely a day that passes when I do not think of ending my own life. Some days, my depression is an overwhelming weight to bear and it takes nearly everything I have just to push the thoughts away and get on with my routine.
  • Lessons from failure

     Thirty-two. Thirty-three. Thirty-four. Thirty-five -- time’s up. Somewhere in Texas a senior airman
