Production Truck Capabilities

The Air Force Public Affairs Agency (OL-H)’s motion imagery production center owns and operates the Air Force’s only mobile, live production truck mission.  Our goal is to offer innovative ways to reach a maximum audience at minimal cost using professional broadcast/streaming mediums.

Since the acquisition of the trucks, the unit has accomplished more than 30 truck missions, covering events from the U.S. Air Force Academy’s graduation ceremonies to TedX and Warrior Games to town halls for the Secretary and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. Other customers include the Secretary of Defense, NORTHCOM, NASA, the U.S Navy, and the Joint Strike Fighter (F-35 Lightning II). Most recently, the satellite truck was employed for live broadcast coverage of the President of the United States’ historic first visit to Utah.

The production and satellite trucks are capable of:

  •          Live satellite feed and streaming video (DVIDS integration)
  •          High-definition video production
  •          Multiple cameras (up to 16) providing a variety of perspectives
(speaker close, speaker wide, crowd, Q&A,
    etc.)
  •          Large screen projections for live camera feed or pre-recorded
             programing
  •          Local/national media connections allowing for real-time downloads
  •          In-truck, real-time production with graphics and text
  •          Capable of operating in austere conditions or remote locations.

The unique, live mobile broadcast capabilities have saved the Air Force and clients more than $500,000 in four years by eliminating production/satellite truck rentals and satellite fees. In conjunction with the Defense Video & Imagery System (DVIDS), live or pre-recorded feeds are available to the Department of Defense and civilian media agencies at no cost.

The trucks are Air Force resources, eliminating leasing fees and made available at little to no cost.  Typically, the only costs incurred by customers include per diem expenses for the production/satellite truck personnel as well as the fuel used to travel to and from the desired location. For events less than one day, the OL-H trucks are cost effective anywhere west of Mississippi River; while multiday events anywhere in the CONUS make the production/satellite trucks a cost effective option.  Finally, the reach can be extended by procuring cargo airlift to fly the trucks to any desired location.
